What exactly is Hemp Oil and how can it help you?
Hemp Oil can be an effective addition to any therapeutic regimen aimed at managing inflammation, stress & anxiety.
Hemp oil has been widely studied in the past couple years and evidence based medicine has been piling up on appropriate clinical uses of hemp oil. The areas that have been studied to have the most effect from hemp oil include anxiety, inflammation and stress. When participants used hemp it was in the form of pure and controlled supplementation. Since it is a hot topic right now there are many manufacturers trying to get a product on the market for consumers. I always stress to clients the importance of choosing high-quality brands that you can trust. Supplements should always be third-party tested and follow all FDA guidelines.
Hemp is a plant, and we know that "plants" are healthy for us. Hemp is no different than let's say kale, in the fact that it is a plant that contains phytonutrients (plant antioxidants). These phytonutrients support the system called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). This system is involved in almost the entire body, from eating, sleeping, and relaxing, to more complex functions like neurological, metabolism, and inflammatory processes.
Hemp's phytonutrients work specifically on receptors in the body that control underlying inflammation present in the body. These receptors are called CB1 and CB2 receptors.
CB1 and CB2 receptors are found all over the body in cells, including key immune cells. This is why hemp oil is particularly effective in helping to diminish the inflammatory response in the body.
Hemp oil helps to restore balance to the body's systems responsible for:
- Memory (pain and emotional)
- Immunity and Inflammation
How to Choose a Quality Supplement
First off, you need to make sure you are purchasing your supplements from a highly reputable company. In order for CBD oil to not create a psychotropic response (a buzz) it needs to contain less than 0.3% THC. A high quality hemp oil should provide a combination of natural omega-3 fatty acids including DHA, DPA and EPA. Check the label for these specific fatty acids.
A high quality supplement should be free of genetically modified ingredients and ideally free of corn, soy, gluten and additives.
